Beachwood is the default base for one simple reason: distance. Hotels like the Courtyard by Marriott, Hotel Indigo, and Aloft by Marriott all sit within a ten-minute walk of Chagrin Boulevard, and Canterbury Golf Club is a short drive from any of them. The trade-off is character: these are working hotels built for the office parks nearby, not resort properties, which means predictable rooms, reliable breakfast, and a fitness center more than a destination in themselves. For a group whose priority is minimizing the drive between the hotel and the first tee, that trade-off is the right one, and it is why most of Canterbury's golf-resort inventory sits here.

Solon and Independence, both further south along I-77, make more sense for a trip that pairs Canterbury Golf Club with a second course on the same visit. The Hampton Inn, SpringHill Suites, and TownePlace Suites clusters in Solon run the same corporate-travel character as Beachwood but sit closer to the interstate, cutting the drive to a southern Cleveland course without adding much time back to Canterbury itself. It is a base built around logistics rather than proximity to any single club, which is exactly the point for a multi-course society trip.

Groups that want to cook rather than eat out every night should look at the extended-stay cluster: Residence Inn, Homewood Suites, and Home2 Suites all list full kitchens, useful when eight people splitting a long weekend would rather handle breakfast themselves than wait on a hotel restaurant before an early tee time. These rooms tend to run as suites rather than standard doubles, which also solves the usual golf-trip problem of everyone tripping over shared luggage in a single room, and the savings on a week of restaurant breakfasts add up fast across a four-night society trip with eight players splitting the tab.

A smaller cluster near University Circle and downtown Cleveland, including the InterContinental Suites Hotel and Holiday Inn Cleveland Clinic, trades a longer drive to the club for proximity to the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Botanical Garden. It rarely makes sense as the only base for a Canterbury trip, since it adds twenty to twenty-five minutes each way, but it is worth one night if the group wants a change of scene, or if a non-golfing partner wants easy access to the museum district while the rest of the group plays.

Beachwood itself reads as suburban Cleveland rather than a resort town: office parks, a shopping corridor along Chagrin Boulevard, and hotel rows built for business travel that happen to sit close to the club. Solon and Independence, further south along I-77, share the same character, function over atmosphere. The exception is a small cluster near University Circle and downtown, close to the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Botanical Garden, worth adding a night to if the group wants a change of scene between rounds.
